Removal Guide

Remove the seat to expose the tank mounting
bolts. Remove both of the bots with a socket or other
wrench.

Pop the tabs on the side cover out of the
rubber retainer slots on the sides of the tank.

Remove the plastic side covers by removing
the screws and sliding the cover forward.

I prop the back end of the tank up with a
rubber mallet to make it easier to get to all of the fittings
underneath the tank. This is MUCH easier than trying to hold
the tank up with one hand and disconnecting fittings with the
other.

Disconnect the gas gauge sensor wire and
breather line from the right side of the tank.

Disconnect both lines from the fuel petcock
on the left side of the tank.

Lift the tank off and set it on a tire or
something similar to keep it from resting on the petcock and
potentially damaging it. Here's what the bike looks like
without the tank:
