This is a cheap alternative to a rear hugger -
materials
cost should be under $US5, including nuts, bolts etc.
This is what I started with - half a meter of insertion
rubber which is a strip about 8 inches wide (we work in metric here
but I'll convert to make it easy for you)

I cut it so as to be about 7 inches wide - this meant it
fitted between the rear side arms and curved round the angled braces
just a little bit. I cut it to a length that would just clear
the centre stand. I also had to cut a notch in the top right
corner so that it would fit snugly when mounted to the tool kit
compartment. I drilled three holes, as you can see, in the tool
kit compartment and the rubber to match.

You can get a bit of an idea here - in this photo, the rear
of the bike is to the top.

Here is an underneath shot, taken on top of the rear tire
and looking forwards - you can see the cut out notch clearly and why
it is needed. The toolkit compartment is actually off-set
to the left (looking forward) so that's why you need more overhang on
the RHS.

Finally, the somewhat daggy (and temporary) arrangment I
have put in place to make sure the rubber stays off the tire.

Note that at no time did I have to remove anything, except
the seat and the toolkit.
