ZR-7
Battery Box Modification
Contributed by Jay Wright
Went to purchase a YTX12-BS battery for my
ZR 7S, and was a little shocked at the price. I found that a
conventional Yuasa YB14-B2 battery fits perfect (and has 14
amps instead of 12 for better cranking in cold conditions), so
long as part of the intake snorkel is removed. The engine
breathes much better as well, the curve in the snorkel and
internal design is quite restrictive. To save further
explanations, i have included 2 pics of the airbox mod. Works
great, no interferance with the seat, and the battery is 1/3
of the price. Yuasa has been producing this battery as early
as 1976 for Japanese street bikes, hence the much cheaper
price. Note that other conventional batteries fit, but either
the posts are reversed or the vent is in the wrong spot.

Hope this helps other ZR 7 owners save a
few $$$$
Cheers!
Jay
